Professional Piping Recital

Friday, October 9, 2009 - 7:00 to 9:00 pm

Concert Performances by Murray Henderson (Kirriemuir, Scotland), Amy Garson (Ottawa, Ontario), and Andrew Douglas (Schenectady, New York). This evening was a benefit for the Nicol-Brown Amateur Invitational Competition, and a welcoming reception for the competitors.

The Nicol-Brown Contest

Saturday, October 10, 2009 - 10:00 am to 7:00 pm

Eleven of the finest Amateur pipers from across North America were selected to play in an elite invitational contest with three events: 6/8 Marches, Piobaireachd and MSR. The contest is dedicated annually to the memory of Robert U. Brown and Robert B. Nicol.

The judges were Murray Henderson from Kirriemuir, Scotland; Amy Garson from Ottawa, Ontario; and Andrew Douglas from Schenectady, New York.

Master Class and Piobaireachd Seminar

Sunday, October 11, 2009 - 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Nicol-Brown competitors had the privilege of receiving excellent instruction from Murray Henderson, and the public was invited to observe the master class. Topics included musical expression, technique, and improving musicianship toward the professional level of piping.

An advanced Piobaireachd seminar led by Murray Henderson and Donald F. Lindsay followed a lunch break.
